The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions aim to create a pool of European researchers and to increase Europe’s attractiveness for researchers.

The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions apply a bottom-up approach - there are no fixed scientific areas. Researchers and institutions are free to choose their research topic.

The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions are divided into five programme lines, each addressing different aspects of the overall objectives.

  • Research training within doctoral programmes
Furthering career opportunities of doctoral candidates through structured research training provided by a network of universities, research organisations and non-academic institutions: MSCA Doctoral Networks
  • Individual Fellowships for Postdoctoral Researchers
Promoting career opportunities for Postdocs carrying out individual research projects to enhance their competences: MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships
  • Co-funding of mobility programmes
Supporting regional, national and international mobility programmes for doctoral candidates and postdoctoral researchers, in line with the principles of Charter & Code: Co-funding of Regional, National and International Programmes (COFUND): MSCA COFUND
  • Staff Exchanges
Supporting international and inter-sectoral cooperation and knowledge transfer through staff exchange within a network of institutions: MSCA Staff Exchanges
  • European Researchers’ Night
Support to bring research and the researchers themselves closer to the general public and to show the impact of research on society and citzens’ daily lives: MSCA and Citizens

Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions cover institutional and individual actions, depending on whether one or more institutions or individual researchers with their host institution apply.

Within the institutional actions, institutions or a consortium of institutions apply to the European Commission / REA for research projects covering a number of person months. Resulting job vacancies must be advertised externally. The vacancies have to be published on EURAXESS; additional job advertisements are expected.

Within the individual actions, individual researchers apply in cooperation with a host institution. The host institution is to submit the application. The career opportunities of postdoctoral researchers are promoted through individual, excellent research stays in Europe and abroad.
