European Fellowships aim at experienced researchers who are in possession of a doctoral degree or have at least four years' research experience (full-time equivalent).
Funding covers a fellowship of between 12 and 24 months (up to 36 months in the Career Restart Panel) in a Member State or Associated State; transnational mobility is required. The researcher must not have resided or carried out his/her main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the host organisation's country for more than twelve months in the three years immediately prior to the call deadline.
The application is written jointly by the researcher and his or her host organisation. The final project proposal must be submitted by the host organisation via the Participant Portal.
Project evaluation is carried out in eight scientific panels. The applicant has to indicate the appropriate panel at the submission stage according to the scientific domain of the proposal.
Apart from the standard European Fellowships, there are three further types of European Fellowships, which are evaluated in specific panels:
- Career Restart Panel (CAR),
- Reintegration Panel (RI),
- Society and Enterprise Panel (SE).
Proposals for the Career Restart Panel (CAR) support experienced researchers wishing to resume research in a Member State or Associated Country after a career break (e.g. after parental leave, working outside research, etc.). The applicants must not have been active in research for at least 12 consecutive months within a time period of 18 months immediately prior to the call deadline.
Proposals for the Reintegration Panel (RI) support experienced researchers looking to return from a Third Country and reintegrate in a research position in a Member State or Associated Country. The researchers must be a nationals or long-term residents of a Member State or Associated Country (researchers who have spent at least five consecutive years (i.e. without breaks in research) in one or more Member States or Associated Countries in full-time research activity).
Proposals for the Society and Enterprise Panel (SE) support fellowships in the non-academic sector, especially in enterprises. The host organization must be a non-academic organisation.
A modified mobility rule applies to the Career Restart Panel, the Reintegration Panel, and the Society and Enterprise Panel: Researchers must not have resided in or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the host organisation's country for more than 36 months in the five years immediately prior to the call deadline.
